People go to the Oceans shore for many reason. Many of which I suspect are primordial and unidentifiable by the individual. It’s just a sense that one should be there, to gaze out across the undulating plane where sky and water meet. There is a tranquility in the rhythm of the surf and the never ending waves. There is the setting of the Sun in the West and the rising in the East, just a sliver of what will become day and night and the marking of the beginning and the end of another day. Perhaps it’s the metaphor of the Alpha and the Omega of one’s life. Probably just a warm spot on soft sand where the fishing and the swimming is anticipated as a respite from the complexities of one’s hectic or confusing life. It is always personal. It is the reason we go, and the reason we paint it over and over. For the magic cannot be captured, only borrowed for a moment. – Bartké
