I enjoy fishing and have done so on the boat pictured many times. It brought back memories of my many adventures out in the Gulf fishing with family and friends. Port Aransas is and was well known for many decades as a fishing hot spot on the Texas Coast. Tarpon was the allure. The Tarpon Inn is famous for its days accommodating the sport fisherman. Theodore Roosevelt fished here and has a Tarpon scale stapled on the wall with hundreds of others testifying to a success catch. Over the years Port - A has evolved and declined and evolved again between each Hurricane. Hurricane Harvey kicked it in the proverbial groin in August, 2017 and it will be now evolving once again. The painting of the Pelican charter fishing boat is from a Roberts Park viewpoint looking at the backside of the harbor on Cotter Street not far from the Ferry Landing. I was drawn to the collage of color, form and structure of the boat which so many have enjoyed and so many remember, having puked off the back rail seasick. I thought it captured the essence of what make Port Aransas special. – Bartké
