While camping and painting at Goose Island State Park, which I might mention was devastated by Hurricane Harvey on the evening of August 26, 2017, the wind was blowing intensely out of the North; blowing the Aransas and Copano Bay waters out the Gulf of Mexico. As the bay is relatively shallow, less than a few feet deep, this exposes many opportunities for shore birds to feed on the marine life left in shallow pools in the estuaries areas of the park. Snowy Egrets, Rosetta Spoonbills, Red Head Ducks, Cormorants, Herons, Sea Gulls and Cranes arrive like the opening of a new Walmart looking for easy to find food. My depiction of one such tidal flat on a blustery afternoon captures the Egrets as they feed in the marsh and the mood of the day. - Bartké
