I entitled this painting “After Dune” as a play on words, but it best describes the setting afternoon Sun and the crawling shadows across the coastal sand dunes. The dunes are replete with life. From the small crabs and beetles whose footprints crisscross the pristine virgin sand, to the serpentine evidence of an occasional Rattlesnake in search of a Pocket Gopher, the dunes give glimpses of its secret hidden world. Various grasses and vines hold the sand tight until the next wind blow and sculptures the sands in an ever-changing magical symphony. I felt ashamed when I walked on the dunes, leaving my footprints where they should not be, but by the next day any evidence of my presence was absorbed into the dunes eternal cycle. – Bartké
