The global population is expected to reach 12 billion by 2050, and the current population of 7 billion started to get on my nerves one day with their pushing and shoving, long lines waiting, the miles of traffic and the grubbing and grabbing of people struggling to survive. Within this context, I began to see the crush of humanity piling upon each other; young and old, race upon race, man upon woman, woman upon man, adult upon child, until the weight of the population presses the humanity out of each of us. The eccentricity and playfulness of the work hides its darkness but those viewers with an optimistic center find the bright light of hope and humanities joy within its whimsical faces. - Bartké
